What's the difference between laminate and luxury vinyl flooring?

As you search for the perfect new floors, you'll hear a lot about laminate and luxury vinyl. But what are the differences between the two?

These materials have some similar features, but at the core, they aren't the same. Understanding those differences could help you to choose your best flooring faster.

The construction is not the same

Luxury vinyl flooring consists of vinyl, plasticizers, and other components. And the result is not only stable but also completely waterproof for life.

The layers are firmly pressed together for a single piece of flooring that acts as one. In addition, a protective top wear layer protects the image layer for new floors with a long lifespan.

Laminate also features layers but features different materials. Pressed wood and other wood products make up a majority of this material.

The benefits aren't the same

While luxury vinyl is 100% waterproof, even in flood conditions, laminate is not. Luxury vinyl protects from the top to the bottom and from the bottom to the top.

Laminate offers waterproof materials, but this protection only works from the top. If you have subfloor dampness or moisture issues, you'll need to add products.

Laminate's water resistance is also a top-to-bottom feature, as you’ll find at our flooring company. We can tell you about more differences when you visit our showroom.
